Mexican Scum

Edwin Salas Company

A staged ritual following an undocumented immigrant who becomes a U.S. citizen, an ICE officer, an exile, and a false messiah. Through piano, projection, and grotesque movement, the work confronts whiteness, power, and state violence. If you are angry about what is happening now, you need to see this.

Artist Bio(s)

I am a multidisciplinary performance artist with a B.A. in New Media, recognized for outstanding academic and research achievement. My practice centers on the body as a site of ritual, conflict, and transformation, where power, identity, and violence are staged rather than represented.

My work moves between performance, puppetry, sculpture, object-based actions, and projection, often taking the form of contemporary ceremonies that blur theater, installation, and social critique. I draw from physical craft traditions and collective memory to construct works that confront authority, belonging, and moral collapse.

I have presented performances and installations in over 15 countries across Europe, Latin America, Asia, and the United States. My work has been supported by fellowships and grants including the McCullough Fellowship, Dream Fund (AIGA AVL), Art in the Heart (City of Asheville), multiple FONCA Mexico awards, and the Out of Rules Award at the Fringe Festival.
